I've been hard at work with Jen Farris and the Atlanta Ballet getting ready for the world premiere of 'big.' Last night I had the opportunity to see the dress rehearsal, unfortunately, I won't be there tonight for the opening. However, last night I had a great feeling of accomplishment. I know that the rest of the PR people are still sweating bullets over tonight's opening, but for me, I feel like a great achievement has already been made. The day that Atlanta Ballet's Artistic Director, John McFall, and Big Boi came together and said, "Let's do this," the accomplishment was already made. If I could say one thing to the artists, the director, the choreographer, and the PR people it would be, "Don't sweat, all the hard work is already done, everything will fall into place when something magical like this is going down." For me, it doesn't matter if the lines of VIP's and general ticket holders cross. In fact, they should. It doesn't matter if it's chaos. It should be. It doesn't matter if someone misses a step or a cue. No one will notice. Everyone will be in awe. There is very little that could ruin this performance. You may ask, "How can say this with such confidence?" My answer to that would be, "Just go and see for yourself."
While I was sitting there last night, I knew that this show wasn't about art. It wasn't about music or dance. This show can't be defined, only interpreted by every single individual who sees it. My interpretation of it was somewhat of an epiphany, like the kind they wrote about in the Bible. The moment of realization of something much greater and much more powerful than yourself. Much more powerful than the word's you can formulate to describe your feelings. This show isn't about hip hop, and it isn't about ballet. This is about breaking all the rules and all the cultural norms.
It's about the fusion of two cultures and the uniting of one city. It's about much more than art and dance and music. This is about people, creative people coming together to make magical things happen. When you watch this performance; I challenge you to hold back your emotion, but I know that you won't be able to. This show is guaranteed to send chills down your spine and give you goosebumps. For the more emotional crowd, it will bring tears to your eyes.

Sounds like this performance will be the event of the year...I only wish I could see it! Hope Atlanta appreciates all the hard work put into such an event. Good Luck!
